“Anđelka’s Gate” in Trebinje is one of the most visited and recognizable tourist attractions in the city. Located in the romantic atmosphere of the Old Town, this gate has become a real cultural and tourist symbol thanks to the filming of the legendary television series “The Wounded Eagle” directed by Zdravko Šotra.

The gate is named after the main character from the series, Anđelka Bojanić, whose character was played by actress Sloboda Mićalović. In the series, Anđelka comes to work and live in Trebinje, and through this gate she enters her romantic and secluded yard.

Local tour guides often jokingly, but also proudly, compare it to Juliet’s house in Verona. Just as tourists go to Italy because of Shakespeare’s fictitious story, thousands of visitors come to Trebinje every year to take pictures in front of Anđelka’s Gate.

Where it is located: Inside the walls of the Old Town in Trebinje, at the address Stari grad 118.

Landscaping: The tourist organization of the city recognized the enormous potential of this place. In front of the gate, decorative benches, information boards and flowers have been planted, which gives the location a special Mediterranean charm.

Interesting fact: In front of the gate in the evening you can often meet street musicians who play to complement the romantic atmosphere of this old part of the city.

This small attraction in Trebinje is a perfect proof of how cinematography can permanently shape and enrich the tourist offer of a city, turning an ordinary passage into an unavoidable point of every trip through Herzegovina.
