Monument to the Liberators

  • In the center of Trebinje
  • 450 m from the station
  • How to get there: By foot

This monument was built in the place where 77 men and two women were hanged in World War I. It was unveiled on August 5, 1938 on 20th anniversary of the liberation of Trebinje. It consists of one remarkably beautiful statue of angel in Nemanjić style, made by a foreign sculptor according to Dučić’s sketches, one monolith pillar 4-5 meters tall and a compartment (pedestal base) with carved inscriptions. Dučić’s idea about good winning over evil is shown through the angel character with a drawn sword, as a keeper of peace and the freedom of the City, pressing his feet against a snake – symbol of evil, slavery and suffering.
